Story Structure | Part One: ‘Architecture’

July 5 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Event Details

In the first of our seminars exploring the fundamentals of script writing, Architecture will discuss the art and practice of classical story structure and design. The session will be led by award-winning writer and playwright Neil Anthony Docking, who will take you through the key stages of story construction – how to build one, how to maintain it and then how to test it.  The session will also include a discussion on the central role that story has played in human endeavours since Aristotle’s time: from politics to art, from philosophy to psychology, and even how narrative frameworks may be essential for survival and maintaining our grasp on the real world.

But our central task will be to examine story structure and evaluate its fundamental importance to successful scriptwriting. You may have the most original idea, populated with the most engaging characters who speak the most vibrant dialogue, but none of it will matter without an unshakeable structure underneath. Whether you’re a new or existing writer, this seminar will leave you with a love and appreciation for story structure like never before. And, not only will we hear from the likes of Aristotle, we’ll also be hearing from the bees, and what they have to say on the subject!
