Picking up from part one, Architecture, the second of our seminars – Roadmaps – will delve deeper into character construction, progression and development. Led by Neil Anthony Docking, the session will take you through the key stages of a character’s journey and how to map out a character’s arc in relation to classical structure. We’ll cover key concepts such as mythical archetypes and discuss their various functions across genres, whilst focusing on the most common character types and examining what part they play in driving plot and action. We’ll also take a look at character in terms of creating narrative and, who knows, we may just uncover the true secret of character along the way.
This seminar is most suitable for writers who have a good grasp on classical structure (and who may have attended Architecture) but who are eager for a deeper appreciation of character mechanics and how characters – from heroes and villains – work.
